Translating a thought process

The ideas of the Brainport Industries Campus, an innovative location for the supply and manufacturing industry of the high-tech chain of Brainport region Eindhoven, have been brought together in a seed shell from which the ideas for this campus have sprung.

The Brainport Industries Campus is set up as an ecosystem. An environment has been created where the high-tech manufacturing industry has all the tools it needs to make connections, grow and prosper in order to stay on top globally.

Creativity is just that. The ability to bring about new and valuable things. That ability takes shape and substance within the BIC.

Growth coins

In the campus path is a drawing of marker buttons, so called. Growth coins. Together, these form an abstract representation of the brain cells (neurons) making new connections. The Growht coins symbolize all the seeds planned with the development of the Brainport Industries Campus; the founder of the ecosystem (the building) is there, the seeds have been scattered and now it is time for them to germinate and grow. All the seeds symbolize everyone who contributed to the creation of the campus as well as everyone who is building the campus ecosystem now and in the future.

Stimulating the senses

Anyone entering the Brainport Industries Campus does so along the campus path at the main entrance. Passersby see and feel a drawing or mark in the tiles as they walk over them. ‘Everyone is just in their head,’ the route lets you get grounded again. Hurried movements become conscious movements. It automatically brings a change in the beat and rhythm of the steps. The relief makes you feel and experience connection with yourself, the people and the environment around you. This causes you to be pulled out of your running thoughts for a moment and consciously engage.

Crowning the work was the festive unveiling by King Willem Alexander. During the opening ceremony, his signature was engraved on the coin. Together, we added the final Growth coin to the relief in the campus path.

The placement moment did not go quite smoothly this does make it extra special. A funny video impression of royalty program Blue Blood can be found in this video.

This work is part of Juul’s Tour D’art. A 40 km bicycle-art-route through the beautiful Brabant countryside along 4 large works in public space by Juul.
